I have exciting news to share today.
Over the last 10 years, as I have served as Lead Pastor, Hope City Church has used an elder model of ministry to provide accountability for the church staff and care for the church members. In 2017, as we looked ahead into the next season of ministry God is calling us to, we began the process of identifying and training current and new elders for future leadership. We believe these elders will serve our church and staff well as we embrace all that God has for us moving forward.
Their responsibilities include:
- Provide care for church members
- Help members grow in their relationship with Christ (by example & teaching)
- Resolve Church conflict (disputes & division)
- Provide input and spiritual covering for church staff and leadership
Hope City Church is a staff led church, meaning our staff, under the leadership of the lead pastor, are empowered to make decisions necessary to lead the ministry God has put in their heart. The Elders serve to provide prayer, input, accountability, and support for the staff as they lead the church.
One thing that makes Elders unique at Hope City Church is they serve as couples, husband, and wife together. We made this decision early in my tenure to make sure that different voices and perspectives were heard and families carried the burden of church leadership together.
The Elders are not perfect and don’t claim to be, but they have met the following qualifications
- An active, passionate relationship with Jesus
- A life above scandal, controversy, and drama
- Unrelenting support for the vision and mission of the church, and the pastoral staff
- A track record of consistency in serving, attending and supporting the church
As Hope City Church continues to grow, the ability for the pastor to provide pastoral care for the congregation is logistically impossible. The Bible teaches that the burden of church leadership should not rest solely on the shoulders of one person and Elder leadership allows Hope City Church to aggressively continue reaching more people who need to experience real life while also caring for the members in the church.
We have provided the names and pictures of the new Elders at Hope City Church and ask that you pray for our church and their families as God leads us into a new season of leadership.
Hope City Church is not built on the talents of a few but on the sacrifices of many. Exciting days are ahead, and I can’t wait to see what God is going to do as we share real hope so people can have real life. #onemorematters
